Steve Walmsley received a completely favorable decision on appeal at the USPTO Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in a patent application with broad claims covering an important water quality sensor invention jointly developed by a major home products company and a leading university in the scientific water quality sensing field. The examiner had issued a half dozen office actions applying multitudes of references over several years of prosecution in stubborn attempts to reject the application. But the PTAB completely reversed the examiner on all counts. Accordingly, the patent is set to issue with lengthy patent term extension and broad claims.
